Introduction

Dr. Darryl Vine contacted us about putting together a IoT Proof of Concept. The idea is to put together a device that can record the vitals from a patient and push it to a base station. The plan is to build on our existing IoT sensor boards and connect the sensors to it so that it can be sent to a base station and linked with existing patient data on the internet (hospital cloud)

Phase 1

  • Get the various sensors and figure out how they work. Initial focus is on these sensors:
  • Setup low power IoT node with sensors
  • Setup basic base station that will receive that data from the sensor node and enter it into a database
    • Sending the data to a web hosted DB (preferably securely).
    • Being able to query that same web hosted DB for a list of patients (ward patient IDs) currently on that ward and select one to attach locally to those vitals.
  • Setup basic webserver that will allow viewing and administration of data

Possible Measurements

  • Patient Position Sensor (Accelerometer)
  • Glucometer Sensor
  • Body Temperature Sensor
  • Blood Pressure Sensor (Sphygmomanometer) V2.0
  • Pulse and Oxygen in Blood Sensor (SPO2)
  • Airflow Sensor (Breathing) - Resp. rate info can be retrieved from the SPO2 sensor
  • Galvanic Skin Response Sensor (GSR - Sweating) - Not required for hospital use/monitoring
  • Electrocardiogram Sensor (ECG) - Not required for hospital use/monitoring
  • Electromyography Sensor (EMG) - Not required for hospital use/monitoring
